The Urban Front story
Born to an Australian mother and Lebanese father, Elizabeth Assaf spent her early years in Australia. Then at the age of 9 she was taken by her father to live in war-torn Lebanon, where she quickly learnt the importance of perseverance, resilience and the support of her surrounding family.
Everything changed for Elizabeth when she won a scholarship to attend university in America. She graduated with a distinction in Media Studies and took the opportunity to continue her studies with an MA funded by the British Council at the University of Salford.
Nabil and Elizabeth Assaf overcame significant challenges to turn their passion for design into a successful business
Elizabeth arrived in the UK in 1995 with only $100 to her name, and during her studies met her future husband and business partner, Nabil. Nabil too had arrived with only $100 in his pocket and had come to the UK as a refugee.
Once she had completed her degree, Elizabeth worked as a freelancer for seven years on various television shows - including Property Ladder,Changing Rooms, and others with an interior design slant. In her spare time, Elizabeth developed a passion for interiors and house renovation.
Handcrafted excellence & impeccable attention to detail are hallmarks of Urban Front doors
Following a round the world trip in 2005, Elizabeth and Nabil decided it was time to follow their true passion in life - and their contemporary door design company, Urban Front, was born. They re-mortgaged their home to raise the money to start the business and took the decision to design but not to manufacture.
Quickly it became obvious they had made the right choice. Despite starting with little knowledge of doors, the new perspective on contemporary doors they brought to the market was a hit. Urban Front was like nothing else on offer, and soon they positioned themselves as experts in their field.
Today, Elizabeth has helped create doors to adorn hundreds of exceptional properties across the UK, Europe and further afield. She has established herself as a trusted authority on contemporary door design.
Urban Front has become a market leader and, as a result, Elizabeth has written and delivered RIBA certified CPD, written articles for magazines, and been involved in many international endeavours - including designing and making a door for the residence of the British Consulate in New York.
