What was the brief for your home?
We were keen to have a Georgian-style house with lots of light. When we moved into our house, we quickly realised that most rooms were dark, so we specified as much light as possible. We also asked for evenly sized bedrooms with each having an ensuite (except for the room on the second floor, which shares a bathroom with the games room).

Which architect did you work with?
We chose Jack at Studio Reach Architecture. He was recommended to us and we liked his designs. We now have large usable spaces and lots of light coming in from roof lanterns in the hall, kitchen, and living room. The design also gave us much higher ceilings than we were anticipating, especially given the fact that the roof height hasn’t changed.

Were there any challenging moments during the renovations?
We had issues with the foundations because of the clay soil, which added to the cost immeasurably. We didn’t have an on-site project manager throughout the build, which meant we had to make decisions regularly and quickly. We also aimed to have no steps on the ground floor, but unfortunately, this was impossible.

Why did you choose Urban Front for your front and garage doors?
We looked at Urban Front on Instagram and loved the chunkiness of the doors. When we visited the workshop, we were blown away by the quality and options. We quickly realised we wanted a dark, simple door so it was an easy choice. We decided to go for fingerprint entry as we have a 12-year-old and could foresee future key loss!

Did you work with an interior designer for the inside of your home?
We commissioned Clare of Clare Elise Interiors and she helped with the colour palette for the house, including the flooring, staircase, and bathrooms. She is also helping us find new pieces of furniture. Clare has been great at meeting our brief and managing our budget; she never offers options that we can’t afford, which is appreciated.

What is your favourite part of your finished home?
The kitchen is probably our favourite part as it’s a lovely space to spend time in.  There are three separate areas, which will be great for entertaining. The bi-fold doors open into the garden, which will be useful once the landscaping is done. Although the build went over budget and took longer than planned, we now have a home that is perfect for us.
